Airport Split was opened on 25th November 1966. Number of passengers grew till 1988. crisis in Former Republic of Yugoslavia. Airport Split was closed in 1991. because of the war and in April of 1992. it was opened again.
It had mostly military airplanes and passengers. Increase of tourist passengers started after 2000. In 2006. Airport Split gained millionth passenger. Because of the growth of activity in Airport Split, there were plans to expand the area of the airport.
