PUPNAT LOCATION

Pupnat (island Korcula, Croatia) is small settlement on island Korcula. It is located in eastern inland of island Korcula. Pupnat is situated on main island's road, 12 km west of town Korcula, 13 km east of Cara and 8 km west of Zrnovo. You can get to Pupnat by plane, boat or car.

If you are coming by plane you will get to Split or Dubrovnik airport and then take a ferry to island Korcula. Pupnat is located on the main road on island which conects main settlements on island.

To get to island Korcula you can hire a water taxi or speed boat transportation and many different water transfers such as rent a boat. You can also use them to go on excursions and cruising and many other water activities. Pupnat is the smallest village on island Korcula.

PUPNAT INHABITANTS AND SETTLEMENTS

Pupnat has around 400 inhabitants. Most of the inhabitants are directed to agriculture and tourism. Most known inhabitant of Pupnat was Franciscan priest Marko Tvrdeic from 18th century. His remains are in Pupnat since 1877.

PUPNAT HISTORY

Pupnat has been inhabitated since Prehistory. Also many tools and remains from Illiryan and Roman times have been found. Pupnat is located inland among the hills and it has been protected for centuries from pirates. Pupnat was first time mentioned in written document in 1346. Pupnat became Parish in 1625. It is believed that name Pupnat comes from „pampinata“ which means vine leaves.

After World War II many inhabitants moved to New Zealand and Australia. Pupnat shares history of all island's settlements. It had many rulers during the history: Venetian, Austrian-Hungarian, Yugoslavian. Since 1991. Pupnat is part of independent Republic of Croatia.

PUPNAT TOURISM

Tourism in Pupnat started to develope after World War II. Accommodation in Pupnat is mostly offered in private apartments, rooms and houses.

PUPNAT ATTRACTIONS

Attractions in Pupnat:
- Church of St. George from 1383.;
- Parish Church of the Lady of Snow from 1600...

PUPNAT ACTIVITIES AND NIGHT LIFE

Pupnat has developed rural tourism. You can try some of the traditional Dalmatian and island's meals in restaurant Mate in Pupnat. Beaches in Pupnat are located in bay Pupnatska luka which is located 4 km southwest of Pupnat. To explore night life on island Korcula you should visit towns Korcula, Blato and Lumbarda.

You can also go on one-day trips to towns and natural locations on island, you can visit town Dubrovnik on mainland and explore its walls, city of Split with Diocletian's palace and many other cultural and historical sights, islands Hvar, Brac, Mljet or Vis. There are many group water transfers and water taxi transportations which can help you to get to these locations quickly by speed boat so you can enjoy in your water activities, sailing, cruising, swimming and many other in bays and beaches of island Korcula.

You can also explore boat rentals possibilities and enjoy in your private vacation. You can enjoy in many walking tours while staying in Pupnat: to the peak of the island Klupca (568 m), to the village Racisce, to Zukovica valley, to town Korcula. There are many events kept in Pupnat. One of them is festival of Blessed Mark, on 24th of August. Most important day is 5th of August dedicated to the Lady of Snow.
