Osobjava is located between two large cities in Dalmatia, Split and Dubrovnik and both offer group or private car excursions to many coastal towns and settlements, as well as group or private boat excursions to islands of Central and South Dalmatia.

Many archaeological findings show that Osobjava is, with town Ston, one of the oldest settlements on peninsula Peljesac.

In 7th century Croats inhabited Osobjava.

During Dubrovnik Republic, in times of plague, many inhabitants of Dubrovnik wanted to populate Osobjava and peninsula Peljesac.

In 15th century Dubrovnik allowed refugees from Bosnia and Herzegovina, who were running away from Turks, to populate Osobjava.

Osobjava became center for refugees and pirates.

Osobjava had largest number of inhabitants during 19th and 20th century. Many inhabitants moved to America and Africa.

During World War II Osobjava was burned.
