Podselje or how it had been used to called Velo Selo was once center of island Vis.

Velo Selo was damaged in 15th century in battles between Venice and Naples-Aragon's king Ferata. Inhabitants of Velo Selo moved to caves and forest. They brought painting of Mother of God with them. Legend says that Mary sent a fly on Aragons and helped in saving the village.

Inhabitants of Velo Selo later moved to port of town Vis.

Legend says that inhabitants of former Velo Selo wanted to built a church and put painting of Mary in one place, but on next day they found it on another place and figured out that she want the church to be built inn that place.
