Rogac (island Solta) - Tourism
Rogac is situated on the north coast of island Solta and was founded as a port for Grohote which is the central town of the island. It still is the main port on the island for all the other towns and villages of Solta.
Rogac has become a charming tourist destination because of its beautiful nature and beaches. It is a great place from which guests can start exploring the beautiful island of Solta and its stunning beaches and nature in peace and quiet since there are no night clubs or bars in the town.
Rogac is a very lively place during the day as there are many passengers going through, but at night it is very peaceful and serene.
In Rogac accommodation can be found in villas, private houses and apartments.
There is one small grocery store and a cafe bar in the center as well as a restaurant that offers traditional Dalmatian specialties of this region and also a pizzeria.
Rogac is well connected by ferry lines to the capital city of Dalmatia-Split.
From Rogac group or private boat excursions and private boat transfers can be organized for a tour of the islands of Brac and Hvar as well as to visit the other major tourist destinations like Split.
If you wish to explore the amazing coastline of Solta with its Archipelago of seven smaller islands and the bigger neighboring islands it can also be done with a boat rental that can be hired with or without crew if you are an experienced skipper.
The Night of the Pirates in Maslinica is an event that has been taking place since 2010 during the peak of the season when the town is brimming with tourists. The Night of the Pirates includes live music, exhibitions of Solta’s artists and autochthonous homemade products that you can also purchase as a souvenir.
The traditional event called “Tugging of Mrduja” is also held every year on the last weekend of July. Mrduja is a small island located between the islands of Solta and Brac. The competitor boats from both of the islands gather around Mrduja, tying ropes around it and try to “tug” the island over to their team while rowing. After the end of the competition a big feast is prepared either on Brac or Solta as the two islands alternate their hosting each year. The winners’ announcement is then made. Each year there are more and more boats participating in this event just as more spectators coming to cheer them on, and offer support having lots of fun.

Rogac (island Solta) - History
Rogac is the oldest settlement of Solta founded in the late 18th century as a port for Grohote which was the central town of the island, and at first it only comprised of fisherman's huts and wine cellars. Despite its closeness to Split the number of its inhabitants has never significantly increased due to the frequent pirate attacks and also since Rogac is situated a bit far from the fertile fields.
This region has been inhabited since the old Roman time. The remnants of a Roman villa rustica dating from 3rd and 4th century were found n Banje locality with walls of Roman baths, mosaic fragments and graves. On the north-west side of the bay were found the walls that mere most probably a part of an ancient pier in the sea. The Church of St Theresa of Ávila was built in the center of the bay in the 18th century and later also a “kazela” that has been used for disinfecting the boats and the storage of fishing nets. A small shipyard was founded in 1920 and is still functioning today being run by the third generation of the same family.
