Cavtat is located on the Rat peninsula in the Dubrovnik-Neretva County. The beautiful old Mediterranean architecture of Cavtat shows that is was once under the rule of Dubrovnik Republic. Konavle County House has been established in 1974. It used to be the village treasury, now displaying typical Konavle house and ethnological treasures.
St. Nicola's parish church has a Picture gallery with a very valuable collection of church liturgical pottery, paintings and sculptures.
Fort Sokol was built on the site of an Illyrian and Roman fortification and was of great importance for the Dubrovnik Republic.
The mausoleum of family Racic who were well-known ship owners was constructed on St. Rock's cemetery in 1921.
Vlaho Bukovac was the forefather of the Croatian modern painting and one of the most famous Croatian painters. The house where he was born can be visited in Cavtat.
Baltazar Bogisic (1834-1908) was a jurist and a scientist of a European fame. He hold several European decorations and was member of many Academic and Scientific societies. His Collection was founded in 1909 – 1912 and over 35000 different items are deposited.
Watermills on River Ljuta were built by Dubrovnik Republic in 1550 and have been preserved up to now.
Franciscan Monastery is situated in the village of Pridvorje that is surrounded by a river and water springs. The monastery was a pilgrimage place so it holds rich treasury of sacral art.

Cavtat - History
At the location of the present day Cavtat in the past there was a Greek colony of Epidaurum that fell under the Roman rule in the year 228 BC.
The Romans established their colony called Epidaurus. It is assumed outside the city walls there existed a Roman amphitheater that was used for the gladiator games. The inhabitants of Cavtat of those times retreated before the arrival of the Slavs in 614.

Cavtat - Interesting Facts
When the people of Cavtat fled before the arrival of Slavs in 614 they moved to the old Illyrian forts in today's Municipality of Zupa Dubrovacka and also at the slopes of the hill Srđ where they formed a settlement called Ragusa that later became the town of Dubrovnik.
