Ploce is a port town situated in south Dalmatia belonging to the Dubrovnik-Neretva County. Tourism in its traditional Mediterranean style has not been able to develop in Ploce due to the fact that it is a port city but despite that Ploce has many great things to offer such as the amazing Bacinska lakes or the estuary of the river Neretva.
Six lakes connected to each other and one more separate lake form a cluster of lakes called Bacinska jezera. They are situated on the right side of the estuary of river Neretva in Bacina by the city of Ploce. These lakes are a home to a great number of protected and even endemic species of plants and animals and therefore have a great biological value. They are pleasant for swimming, surfing or sailing since they are about 3° C warmer than the sea temperature.
In Ploce accommodation can be found in private houses, apartments and rooms. A couple of restaurants in Ploce that offer traditional Dalmatian dishes as well as international cuisine and there are also a few of pizzerias.
Ploce offers a quiet vacation while enjoying the beauty of the nature of Bacinska lakes and the river Neretva while still being in the vicinity of major tourist destinations such as Split and Dubrovnik which can be visited with a private car.

It has a population of about 10.150 permanent residents and its main economy of Ploce is based on the second largest Croatian port situated in Ploce. Ploce - History
Ploce was first mentioned in a written document dating from the year 1387 and that document is kept in the Historical Archive of Dubrovnik. In 1936 it was decided to make a port in Ploce and only a year later started the building of the railway from Metkovic to Ploce. The construction of the railway was finished in 1942 whereas the construction of the port started in 1939 and was not disrupted even with the outbreak of the Second World War.

The city of Ploce was established shortly after the ending of the World War II thanks to the construction of the port.
