Podstrana is a small coastal tourist town located between two rivers of Zrnovnica and Mutogras some 10 km from the town of Split. It is known for its great beaches that stretch along the 9 km of the Adriatic coast.

Podstrana - History
The settlement of Podstrana was formed in the past by the Greek immigrants, and after them the Romans formed the settlement of Pituntium that existed until the 7th century. There are many archaeological findings that testify to the turbulent history of Podstrana and the invasions of Greeks, Romans, Avars, Tatars and Turks to this region. Some of the findings are:
- the ruins of a Roman building near Polace,
- the ruins of the Church of St. Juraj on the hill Perun above Strozanac,
- the ruins of the Church of St. Juraj on Vrsina above Podstrana,
- decorated flat tombstones on the cemetery near the Church of the Lady of Sita in Strozanac,
- the medieval graves near the Church of St. Martin.
The Roman writer Plinije 1st mentioned the Roman settlement of Pituntium in his records. The people of those times lived of viticulture, olive and fruit growing. Not much has chaned upto today as the inhabitants of Podstrana are still engaged in agriculture and farming but have started developing tourism also.
