Around 1/5 of inhabitants of island Brac, lives in Supetar. Supetar has around 3 500 inhabitants. Inhabitants are mostly directed to tourism. Area of Supetar consists of 4 settlements nearby: Supetar, Mirca, Skrip and Splitska.

The Parish Church of Mary's Annunciation was built in the 18th century on the foundations of an Early Christian Basilica of St. Peter which is evident from the mosaic discovered in 1975.
The Early Christian mosaics were made during the 6th century.
Above Supetar there can be seen the Church of St. Luka which is one of the nineteen preserved Romanesque churches. This church is known by the oldest preserved illustration of a boat engraved on a wall inside the church.
In the church museum there can be seen a rich collection of paintings, documents, books and votive ship models, valuable chalices and reliquaries.
The church bell tower was constructed in 1861 and it is 35 meters high.
Near Supetar there is a cave Kopacina that dates from the Neolithic era.
Group or private boat excursions are frequently organized during the summer season to the islands of Hvar and Solta from Supetar. Private boat transfers are also available for a trip to these islands as well as to the cities of Split, Trogir and Omis.

Supetar (island Brac) - Location and Climate
Supetar is administrative, cultural and touristic center of island Brac, located in region of Central Dalmatia in Croatia. Supetar is the largest settlement on the island Brac. Supetar is located across the city of Split, on the north side of island Brac. It has area of 30 km2.
You can get to Supetar by ferry from Split which is organized 10-12 times per day, even more during the summer months. Trip takes 50 minutes of your time.
To get to Split you can go by car or bus on highway A1 (Zagreb-Split) or by train and airplane to airport Split. During the season you can come to island Brac directly by airplane.
Other option for arriving to island Brac and Supetar are private boat transfers or boat rentals. Taxi boat with speed boat is available for you with possibilities of agreement about time and locations. You can order group or private boat excursions for your trips and water activities like cruises.

Supetar (island Brac) - History
Supetar was named after St. Peter and it was first time mentioned under that name in 1423. Parish church of Mary's Annunciation was built in 18th century on the grounds of Early Christian basilica of St. Peter.
Within the sand beach Banj there where found ruins of villa rustica from Roman times. Supetar used to be a port for main settlement on island Brac – Nerezisce. Supetar became main center and main export port on island Brac in 19th century.
