Basilica of St. Peter and Moses was built in 6th century, east of Antique Salona. King Zvonimir was crowned in this church in 1076. Church had three altars. Central altar was dedicated to St. Peter, right one to St. Moses and left one was unknown. Church is today ruined.
Salona was capital of Roman province. Remains of Antique Salona are located in today's Solin. It was first Greek colony and later Roman colony. Old town center was in a shape of trapezoidal and it was surrounded with walls. Today you can see east town walls from August times. During those times Salona developed cultural, religion and economic life. Forum and theater were built as well as water supply and amphitheater. During the rule of Diocletian, not far from Salona, palace was built. It is today's Diocletian's palace in Split. In third century Christian community was founded. During the rule of Diocletian many Christians were killed.
Church of Blessed Virgin Mary was built by queen Jelena in 976. She also built church of st. Stephen.
Manastirine is graveyard from Ancient Salona.
Porta Caesarea are large city doors. It has entrance for wains and entrances for pedestrians. Porta Caesarea are pretty well preserved.
Salona had few spas. Most preserved are located east of town basilica.
Cultural home Zvonimir was founded in 1991.
Museum Tusculum has memorial collection and rooms where archaeologists explore Solin's monuments.

If you are coming with airplane, you will get to airport Split in Kastel Stafilic, and then you can use private car transfers, bus or taxi to get to Solin.

Climate in Solin is Mediterranean. Summers are hot and dry and winters are mild. Most often winds are bura and scirocco. Average year rainfall is 800 mm and snow is very rare.

Solin - History
Solin is located on area of former Salona. Salona was Greek and later Roman colony founded in 3rd century BC.
Salona used to have 60 000 inhabitants which made it fourth largest city in Roman Empire. It was placed within the coast.
Salona was also Archdiocesan center for Dalmatian area. First bishop of Solin was St. Dujam.
When in 7th century Slavs moved here, Salona had fallen. There are still ruins of old Salona in the ground of Solin. Inhabitants of Salona moved to Diocletian’s palace in Split or on islands.
River Jadro is considered to be Croatian Jordan because Solin was place of first baptizing of Croats.
In Solin was crowned Croatian king Zvonimir. Queen Jelena the Famous built two churches in Solin. One church is still here, few times ruined and renovated. Pope John Paul II visited it in 1998.
In 15th and 16th century Turks were occupying Dalmatia and inhabitants cultivated the land both for Turks and Split. Battles between Venice and Turks decreased the importance of trading in Split.
In 18th century agriculture and livestock farming started to develop again.
