Pucisca (island Brac) - History
Pucisca is mostly founded in and of the stone. Brac's stone is very popular and used in many famous buildings, such as Diocletian's palace in Split. Name Pucisca comes of Latin puteus which means well that used to mix fresh and sea water.
Pucisca was built and started to develop after 1420. when pirates were no longer a threat. During the Turkish attacks, inhabitants of Pucisca started to built many castles and forts for defense.
Pucisca was the most protected settlement on island Brac because of the all forts and castles. First private school on island Brac was founded in Pucisca in 1516.
