Gradac - Location and Climate
Gradac is a settlement and a Municipality belonging to the Split-Dalmatia County. It is the most southern Municipality of Split-Dalmatia County and it consists of five settlements of Brist, Drvenik, Gradac, Podaca and Zaostrog.
The settlement of Gradac has a population of about 1310 people. Besides agriculture, fishing and olive growing the people of Gradac are also engaged in tourism.
Gradac is easily reached as it is located by the Adriatic state road D8. If you are coming to Gradac from the direction of Zagreb or Rijeka by the motorway A1, take the exit Vrgorac. Turn right from the exit towards Gradac which is located 42 km from the exit Vrgorac.

Gradac - History
Even though the settlement of Gradac has been inhabited since the ancient times, and there were stone piles found that date to the Bronze and the Early Iron Ages. There are some findings that indicate Gradac was a seat of the Roman civita of Biston that belonged to the colony of Narona.

Gradac - Interesting Facts
Gradac was named after the stronghold located on the elevation above the present-day Church of St. Michael, most probably constructed during the Cretan war as a defense against the Turks.
