Pisak - History
Pisak is a small fishermen's and tourist settlement that has a 1500 years old history. In Pisak there are two dominant family names of Fistanic and Kuzmanic who lived in two settlements and they were the ones who formed the modern settlement of Pisak. A cluster of old houses near the sea towards east still carries the name of Kuzmanici.
Throughout the history, the people of Pisak have been engaged in agriculture and fishing. The main agricultural products were olive oil and red wine that are still being produced by the locals but on a smaller scale. Pisak was the most important fishing port of the Omis Riviera, mainly because of its geographical location opposite the eastern cape of the island Brac. Another reason is the construction of a well sheltered fishing port in the 19th century. Not much is left from the once very powerful fishing fleet but a lot of locals are still engaged in fishing with smaller boats.
