Vrbanj (island Hvar) - Location and Climate
Vrbanj is a settlement located in Croatian region of Central Dalmatia, on island Hvar. It is situated in the center of island Hvar, between Stari Grad (5 km) and Jelsa. Vrbanj is the largest village on island Hvar.
You can get to Vrbanj by air, bus, train, car, water transfers. If you are coming by air, you will get to Airport Split and take a bus or taxi to get to ferry port in Split. Then you will take a ferry Split-Stari Grad and then go with a bus or a car to Vrbanj. If You are coming with your car you can take a highway A1 Zagreb-Split and exit in Dugopolje and take a road for ferry port.
In Split, you can also rent a boat or a car or you can use private boat transfers to get to island Hvar. Vrbanj is located inland of island Hvar, so you will have to take a bus or a taxi to get there from the coast. Anywhere on the coast you can enjoy in water activities, cruising or you can go on group or private boat excursions.
Vrbanj has around 480 inhabitants. Most of the inhabitants are Croats. Most known Croats from Vrbanj are: singer Zlatan Stipisic Gibonni, Split's mayor from 1929.-1933. Jaksa Racic, poet and politician Ante Tresic-Pavicic, composer Ljubo Stipisic and many more.
During the 14th and 15th century, inhabitants were mostly directed to shipbuilding. Vrbanj as a settlement belongs to town Stari Grad.

It was first time mentioned in 1331. Vrbanj had been developing during the 14th and 15th century, mostly in shipbuilding. In 1475. Vrbanj had first local pastor on island Hvar. Vrbanj is a birth place of folk leader Matija Ivanic. In 15th century, inhabitants started to populate settlement Vrboska at the coast.
