Donji Vinjani - History
There are many forts and piles that testify Donji Vinjani has been inhabited since Prehistory. There are tombstones on nine localities.
There are few theories about Vinjani name. Some say it was named after people who have vine (Croatian vinjani) and others that it was named after tribe Vinjani from Middle Ages.
Vinjani was first time mentioned in 1371. in a letter.
In 1717. Vinjani belonged to Venice after Venetian-Turkish wars.
In 1747. Vinjani was declared as independent parish.
