The Church of St. Peter is the oldest building in Vrboska and was built before the 14th century.

The fishing museum was established in 1972 with a view of preserving the rich fishermen's tradition in Vrboska. the museum holds an interesting collection of traditional fishing nets and other fishing tools and gives a valuable insight in the hard life fishermen used to have.
The fortified Church of St. Mary of Mercy is the most impressive architectual site of Vrbovskam, unique in the Adriatic region. It was expanded in 1575 after the Turkish attack during which Vrbovska was burnt and robbed. Fort kastilac dates from the same period and served as a guarding post.
The Church-Fort is the most beautiful construction of that type in Croatia and one of the most beautiful in Europe dating from those ages. The Church has preserved some impressive Renaissanse artworks that are temporarily kept in the Parish Church of St. Lovre.
The Church of St. Lovre dates back to the 15th century and was renovated in Baroque style in the 17th century. It was burnt twice throughout history, first time in 1512 during a rebellion and again in 1571 during the Turkish invasion.
The Church of St. Roko was built in 1577 and has a beautiful Baroque altar with wooden carvings. It is a votive Church.

Vrboska (island Hvar) - History
Vrboska was named after village Vrbanj, because it was its port. Name comes from Latin „verboscam“ and it means wodded bay. Vrboska was founded in 15th century.
In 1512. Vrboska was damaged by Venetians. Church was burned and later reconstructed. Vrboska was burned in 1571. by Turkish attacks. In 1575. Venetians finance the construction of church of St. Mary, known as church-fort. During this time, inhabitants were mostly directed to fishing.
At the beginning of 20th century, Vrboska had sardine factory, civic center, library, clinic and shipyard for wooden ships. It also had direct boat connection with island Brac and city of Split.
Vrboska had economic downturn after World War II and factory was closed. All contents were moved to larger settlements, except post office. Today Vrboska is very popular tourist destination for family vacations.
