Museum of town Kastela in Kastel Luksic was founded in 1988. as gallery Studin. In 1992. gallery was named Homeland town museum. Museum was first located in fort Cippico in Kastel Novi and later in fort Vitturi in Kastel Luksic.
Park Vitturi was built in second half of 18th century by nobleman Rados Micheli Vitturi. Park is located on surface of 7450 m2. In 1968. it was declared as natural and cultural monument.
Botanical garden in Kastel Luksic was founded in 1976. on surface of 4 ha. It consists over 1400 plant species. In 1986. it was declared as monument of horticulture.
Old olive tree in Kastel Stafilic is over 1500 years old. It is believed that it was brought from Italy or Greece. It has root system in area of 100 m. Olive tree is 10 m high and has trunk volume 6 m wide and diameter of treetop 22 m wide.
Biblical garden Stomorija was founded at the end of 20th century after pope John Paul II visited region Dalmatia. In the garden are plants which were mentioned in Biblical garden in the Bible.
Mountain Kozjak is 16 km long mountain with highest peak 779 m high Veli Vrj. There are around 80 km of marked hiking paths on mountain Kozjak. You can use bikes to get to mountain homes on Kozjak.

Kastela - Location and Climate
Kastela (Central Dalmatia, Croatia) is a town in Croatia, in region of Central Dalmatia, part of Split-Dalmatia county. Center of town authority is located in Kastel Sucurac and judiciary in Kastel Luksic.
Kastela is located on surface of 57,67 km2. Kastela is located in the bottom of mountain Kozjak and mountain Mosor. Kastela is located in Kastela bay which is submerged depression between mountains Mosor and Kozjak, and peninsula Marjan and island Ciovo.
Kastela is name for seven settlements of which is town consisted: Kastel Stafilic, Kastel Novi, Kastel Stari, Kastel Luksic, Kastel Kambelovac, Kastel Gomilica and Kastel Sucurac.
Town Kastela has totally around 38 667 inhabitants and it is second largest town in Split-Dalmatia county according to number of inhabitants. Most of the inhabitants are Croats (97,42%) and Catholics (93,62%).
Kastela used to be directed mostly to fishing and agriculture during the history.
In 19th century, when railroad was built, Kastela got much important position.
After World War II Kastela developed industry.
Kastela is connected with towns Trogir and Split with local state roads.

Kastela - History
Area of Kastela field has always been interesting place to live, because of climate and water.
Traces of Neanderthals were found in Mujina cave. In Kastel Stafilic were found Neolithic remains, around 5 000 years old. Nolit era brings battles between different populations and in every Kastela settlement forts were built for defense.
In 1st century BC area of Kastela was inhabited with Illyrians.
At the end of 4th century Greeks founded colony Tragurium which is today Trogir.
During Roman rule ancient Salona was built and Roman emperor Claudius built settlement Sicum for his veterans, at the west side of Kastela field. It is located in today’s Kastel Stafilic.
After 476. When Roman Empire was ruined, area of Kastela had been under the rule of Byzantines.
In 7th century Croats inhabited this area and ancient Salona was ruined.
In early Middle Ages Kastela was part of Klis Parish. Many settlements were formed above Kastela field. On 4th of March 852. duke Trpimir gave grant in which is mentioned name Croat and today on that date is celebrated town Kastela.
Trogir and Split were in constant battles and built many forts in Kastela. In 1420. Trogir and Split got under the rule of Venetian Republic. During Turkish attacks Split and Trogir built additional forts in Kastela. Over 20 forts and castles were built and seven were most important.
In 1797. after Venetian Republic was ruined, Kastela belonged to Austria.
During French rule, marshal Marmont built road between Split and Trogir through Kastela. Today that road is called road of dr. Franjo Tudman. After Napoleon was defeated, Dalmatia was again under the rule of Austria.
After World War I Kastela was part of Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenians. After World War II Kastela is part of Yugoslavia. Agriculture is less developed and industry more.
Municipality Kastela was founded in 1986.
After Homeland war for independence, Kastela got town status.
