Necujam is the youngest settlement on the island of Solta situated in its biggest bay. Prior to the Homeland War Necujam was one of the most famous tourist destinations of the coast of Adriatic. There are eight coves forming this bay: Supetar, Piskera, Bok od rata, Tiha, Maslinica, Podkamenica, Sumpjivina and Bok Supetra.
Necujam has a large beautiful pebble beach surrounded by a lush pine tree forest that offers soothing shade during the hot summer days. In this pine tree forest above the beach there is an old apartment complex in which you can find a small market, children’s playground and a beach volleyball court. A new apartment complex offering excellent accommodation with an amazing view of the sea is also located nearby.

Those looking for an active night life and party can go to the discotheque in Necujam which is the only indoor discotheque on the entire island offering great and relaxed entertainment for the locals and the visitors from all over the island. In Necujam there is also a beach bar.

The settlement of Maslinica is located only 14 km from Necujam. Here guests can admire the beautiful nature of a picturesque bay and the surrounding pine forest located on the south side and an with an Archipelago of seven small island Balkun, Rudula, Grmej, Stipanska, Saskinja, Polebrnjak and reef Kamicic.

Necujam (island Solta) - Attractions
Necujam was frequented by the father of Croatian literature Marko Marulic who used to spend his time in his summer house located by the central beach in Necujam.
The ruins of an old Roman building were discovered in the bay of Piskeri and ceramic objects and coins were found in the vicinity of this area.
The remains of the walls that used to enclose the whole bay which was used as a fishing pond in the ancient days can still be seen.
On an archaeological site near the Supetar Bay were found the ruins of the Roman necropolis.
On the east side of the bay at its bottom there were found the remains belonging to the Antiquity and not far from there are located the ruins of a Goth Church that dates back to the 15th century.
Guests can also take tours of the archaeological remains of the Greek and Roman era by visiting the historical museum, the ruins of ancient villages and the remnants of agriculture and tools still in use today.

Necujam (island Solta) - Location and Climate
Necujam is a settlement that belongs to the Municipality of Solta and the Splitsko-Dalmatinska County. It has a population of about 80 permanent residents.
Solta is connected well by ferry and catamaran lines to port Split during the summer season.
Stomorska and Rogac are the main ports on Solta. It takes one hour by ferry and half an hour by catamaran to get from Split to Solta.
Solta can also be reached by a private boat transfer, a boat rental or a group or private boat excursion from Split.
The Split Airport is well connected to almost all the European countries directly or via Zagreb during the summer season. It is located 25 km from the port of Split. From the airport you can get on the local bus to reach the port or take a taxi or hire a car rental.

Necujam (island Solta) - History
Emperor Diocletian chose this bay in the ancient times as his favorite country retreat and the ruins of his fish-pond can still be seen on the sea bed of Piskera cove. Some graves, ceramics fragments and silver coins of Roman emperors Claudius and Valens, as well as the ruins of the walls of villa rustica have been also discovered near this site. Salt evaporation ponds have been erected in Piskera cove during the 14th century and have left behind curative mud.
Necujam is a place with a very rich history and there are many archaeological findings and historical monuments such as the ruins of the Medieval St Peter’s church from the 15th century standing as just some of the silent stone witnesses of the ancient times gone by.
Necujam was the first place of the island Solta where tourism started developing. After the completion of construction of the tourist complex in 1984 it has become a proper tourist destination.
