The only nursery palms garden on east side of the Adriatic is located in town Vis.

Remains of Antique town Issa are spa, port parts, theater and necropolis.
Parish Church of Our Lady of Spilica was built in 16th century on land given from Frano de Pelegrinis. Church has mixed styles: Gothic, Baroque and Renaissance. Interior of church is consisted of three naves.
Church of St. Cyprian and St. Spirit was built in 1742. in area Kut. It was built on ruins of older church from 15th century. Inside the church is spacious apse and two chapels on sides. Ceiling of the church is made of wood.
Church of St. Juraj was built in 11th century. It was built on small peninsula. St. Juraj is protector of town Vis.
Tower Perasti was built in 1617. by master Vicko. He built the fort for defense from Turkish attacks. Inside the walls are openings for cannons and loopholes. Entrance to the tower was on first floor.
Palace Gariboldi was built in 1552. It was built by Frane Gariboldi who moved to Hvar from Milano. On entrance wall is incription: LAVS DEO FRANCISCVS GARIBOLDVS MEDIOLANENSIS NVNC CIVIS LESINAE PRO SE IPSO AC FILIIS ET HEREDIBVS SVIV HOC OPVS CONSTRVXIT MDLII. It means that he is citizen of Hvar with Milan's origin.
Palace Gazarovic was built in 16th century by writer and poet Marin Gazarovic. It was built in late Renaissance style. On façade is coat of arms surrounded with mermaids. On top is dragon with spread wings.
House Prdvaric was built in 16th century. It has long balcony with stone fence.
Fort Vis was built by British. They were defending Vis when France ruled after peace contract with Habsburg Monarchy. Construction started in 1812. Fort Vis was built under the supervision of captain Henryson. Fort and towers were finished in 1813. and two years later were given to Habsburg Monarchy. Defense towers around fort were called Bentick, Robertson and Martello. Fort itself was called George.

Blue cave is located on island Bisevo, south-west of island Vis. Attraction in the cave is blue light that is made when sun light penetrates into the cave from top hole. Blue cave is very famous tourist attraction.
Green cave is located on small island Ravnik south-east of island Vis. It has two entrances. Inside the cave you can swim.
Island Brusnik is located west of island Vis. It is volcano island with beautiful dark pebble beach. Island is not inhabited. Its surface is 0,03 km2. Island Brusnik is protected area.
Cave Medvidina is located on island Bisevo. Entrance is large but cave is smaller inside. Cave is 160 m long. Cave Medvidina used to be home of endangered mammal Mediterranean monk seal.
Islands Palagruza are located south of island Vis. Small island Galijula is southernmost point of Croatia.
Bay Stiniva is located on island Vis on south coast. You can come to bay Stiniva with a boat or by foot down very steep hill. Bay is surrounded with large cliffs and has beautiful pebble beach. You can not come to this bay with car.

Vis is a town located on north-east coast of island Vis, in a natural bay of St. George, which is protected by small island Host and peninsula Prirovo.
Vis' port is located in south-west part of bay St. George. It is protected by small island Host and peninsula Prirovo.
You can get to town Vis by ferry Split-Vis. If you are coming by airplane, you will come to Airport Split and then take a bus, car rentals or private car transfers to ferry port Split and a ferry to Vis. You can also rent a boat or use private boat transfers to take you from Split to Vis.

Vis (island Vis) - History
First settlement in this area, called Issa, was founded by Greek colonists from Sicily. It was founded in 4th century BC. They were attracted by position of Vis bay and how it is protected. Issa was center of this part of Adriatic and it was independent polis until 1st century BC. It minted its own money, had its colonies and was famous for wines.
In 1st century BC Issa was part of Roman empire. Town Issa lost its importance.
In 10th century Venetians attacked Vis. During Venetian rule after 15th century, Vis was important traffic center where met people from European north and Middle East and traded.
Town Vis became island administrative center in 15th century when Naples kingdom ruined Velo Selo (today Podselje) which used to be island's center.
Island Vis changed many rulers: Venetians, France, England, Habsburg Monarchy, Austria, Italy, Yugoslavia. Today it is part of independent Republic of Croatia.
In 1810. British occupied island Vis and built many defense forts.
During Austrian rule after 1815. island Vis developed its fishing and maritime skills. It was also known for wines.
On 20th of July 1866. near island Vis was known battle between Habsburg Monarchy and Italian navy. Habsburg Monarchy was mostly consisted of Croatian personnel and it won the battle.
In 1941. island Vis was occupied by Italy. In 1943. after Italy capitulated, it belonged to partisans. Island Vis was never occupied by Germany.
Until 1944. island was center of allied military missions and Partisan government. All inhabitants unable for military were evacuated to Egypt. They returned in 1946.
During Yugoslavian rule, island Vis was closed for foreigners. Entire islands was one large fort. Prohibition was cancelled in 1989. On island Vis there were 30 military facilities, tunnel for war ships and military hospital.
During Homeland war, Yugoslavian army left island Vis in 1992.
