The small place of Kozarica is located on neorthern coast of the island of Mljet and it used to be a port for the settlement of Blato. Today it is a tourist and fishermen's settlement estableished by the inhabitants of Blato in 1926.

The National Park Mljet is located 17 km from Kozarica and here guests can see a rich flora and fauna as well as many archaeological sites.
On the island of Saint Mary situated in The Great Lake there is a Benedictan Monastery which is the most visited attraction of the National Park.

Kozarica (island Mljet) - History
The Illyrian tribe Ardiaei of were the first inhabitants on the island who came to the island of Mljet approximately 4000 years ago through the port Prapratno located on the peninsula Peljesac. They first came to the ports Sobra and Okuklje since they were the closest to Peljesac. They slowly started settling near the drinking water sources and along the edges of the island's fertile valleys and fields. They built dwellings of stone and covered them with underbrush and pine branches. They survived by farming, hunting and fishing.
The Benedictines from the monastery situated on the islet of St. Mary became the masters of the whole island of Mljet during the 12th century. They established feudal government in the island in very short period.

The island of Mljet has been discovered by ancient Greco-Roman geographers, who wrote the first records and descriptions of this island that was called Melita in those days.
