Pakleni islands is collection of around 20 islands and cliffs located south-west of island Hvar, across town Hvar. Island Hvar and Pakleni islands are divided with Pakleni canal.
Pakleni islands are connected with island and town Hvar with boat lines. You can use private boat transfers or go on organized group o private boat excursions. In town Hvar there is also possibility of boat rentals so you can come to Pakleni islands yourself. Pakleni islands can be visited from many coastal towns like Split, Trogir, Makarska, Omis and islands Hvar, Brac, Solta, Korcula and many more.
Sailing through Pakleni islands can be difficult during strong winds and because of strong currents, so you should be carefull while cruising between Pakleni islands.
Pakleni islands have been protected natural monument since 1972.

Westernmost point is island Veli Vodnjak. Easternmost point is island Pokonji Dol. Northernmost point is cape Mociguza on island St. Clement. Southernmost point is on island Stamberad.
Island St. Clement is largest island in Pakleni islands. Island St. Clement has three settlements: Vlaka, Palmizana and Momica polje. Settlements don’t have permanent inhabitants. Settlement Vlaka has around 70 inhabitants during 19th century. Today inhabitants come only during summer season.
Pakleni islands were named after „paklina“ which is type of pine resin. It was used in ship building. Pakleni islands are also called Paklinski islands.
There are few piles on island St. Clement which testify earliest population on Pakleni islands. Island was cemetery.
In 2nd century BC Roman fought Illyrian tribes who used ports on islands Hvar, Scedro and Pakleni. In bay Soline are remains of Roman rural property.
On north side of island St. Clement were found remains of Antique ship who was transporting over 10 000 pieces of ceramic dishes.
In 1539. Dominicans had hospice on island St. Clement.
Island St. Jerolim was owned by Franciscans and had little church which was demolished in 15th century.
In settlement Vlaka is Church of St. Clement from 16th century. Church was renovated in memory of Vis battle in 1866. and on year 1869. when Austrian-Hungarian regatta sunk.
Lighthouse on island Pokonji Dol was built in 1872.
On Pakleni islands there are few farmland, but today mostly tourism is developed.
Island Vodnjak Veli, island Pokonji Dol and cliff Baba have lighthouses. Pakleni islands have ACI Marina Palmizana with 160 berths. Heliport was built near Palmizana.
Pakleni islands are most favourite excursion destination for inhabitants of Hvar and its guests. Pakleni islands have many beautiful beaches and hidden bays. Nudist beaches are in bay Stipanska on island Marinkovac and on island St. Jerolim.
On Pakleni islands you will find few restaurants and cafes. There are also beach bars. Most of restaurants and beach bar are found in bay Palmizana, which is most popular excursion point on Pakleni islands. There are few restaurants in settlement Vlaka and bays Stipanska and Zdrilca. You can get to bay Palmizana with private boat transfers and enjoy in lunch in one of its restaurants. You can go on group or private boat excursions from Hvar and cruise around Pakleni islands with stop for swimming and lunch. If you rent a boat in Hvar and drive to bays on Pakleni islands you can stop for beautiful sunset.
In bay Stipanska on island Marinkovac is nudist beach, wellness bathing area, Carpe diem beach. Within wellness area are deck chairs, swimming pool, parasols, dicing school and volleyball terrain. Carpe diem beach organizes parties and night fun.
Pakleni islands are ideal for diving. You can go to Sika of Vodnjak which is located east of island Veli Vodnjak and has few vertical cliffs like Kampel. Other diving attractions are Stambedar and Ujedinjeno Gasko with 30 m long underwater cave.
Pakleni islands are made of limestone.
Vegetation on Pakleni islands is mostly consisted of maquis of myrtle, wormwood, holm oak, spruce, rosemary, thyme, bay leaves, heather, fennel, sage, chamomile...
