Island Kolocep has 2000 inhabitants in 14th and 15th century. They owned 37 boats which sailed through entire Adriatic. In 15th century they had 65 boats and a shipyard. Inhabitants of island Kolocep were also directed to extracting and selling corals.

Island Kolocep has two names. Locals call it Kalamota which is the oldest name of this island noted in 1497. in Parish archive file.
It is believed that two crew members on Columbo's ship Santa Maria were from island Kolocep, Dominik and Mato Kondjevic, but it was never confirmed by any evidence.
