Stomorska (island Solta) - History
The oldest coastal settlement of the island Solta is the settlement of Stomorska. It has been inhabited since the 17th century, even though it has been mentioned in the 14th century as the cove of the residents of Gornje Selo. The family Bucic from Hvar built the small shipyard in Stomorska, while the noble family Cindro built the citadel in the bay. The Riva was constructed in the beginning of the 19th century.
Stomorska was well-known in the past just as in the present for its able seamen. In the past they used to transport grain, wine, limestone and other products. Even today those sailboats are still being used but for a different purpose of seven day cruises over Adriatic.
