Carl Patsch speaks in his book about fort Gradina above settlement Slano which comes from times before Romans. Carl made archaeological research in the beginning of 20th century.

This area was populated by Illyrian tribes Ardiaei and Plearaei.

In 1399. this area comes under the rule of Dubrovnik Republic. Dubrovnik authority bought it from Bosnian king Stjepan Ostoja for 1500 ducats. Duke of Majkovi, Gredelj, started a rebellion and ended up in Dubrovnik prison. Dubrovnik ruled in this area until 1808.

Majkovi is often mentioned in Dubrovnik documents.

During Homeland war Majkovi were robbed and burned by Serbian army.
