Blato is a small town situated in the central part of the island of Mljet in a large and spacious deep valley by a fertile field of the same name - Blato.
In Blato there a very well preserved old Mediterranean architecture with typical Dalmatian stone houses surrounded by lovely gardens and Mediterranean vegetation.
In Blato there is no available accommodation as its inhabitants are not engaged in tourism and the residents are mostly elderly, but it can be found in the nearby village of Kozarica in private houses and in Pomena there is the hotel Odisej as well as private houses that rent out apartments. In village Ropa there is also a camp.
There are old roads leading from Blato to all the other places of the island. A paved road to the north leads to a small village of Kozarica that has a small old dock for berthing. This road also connects to the main road leading to the National Park Mljet.
The island of Mljet has numerous cycling tracks and is an great place for biking enthusiasts. Private car transfers or car rentals can be hired for a tour of the amazing beautiful island of Mljet and if you wish to explore the amazing coastline of Mljet and the nearby island Korcula or even go further to the islands of Brac and Hvar there is the option of taking a private boat transfer or join an orginazed group or private boat excursion. It is also possible to take a one day excurions to the towns of Dubrovnik and Split.

The church of St. Peter and Paul in the village Blato dates from the 14th century. Every year on June 29th the holy day of St. Peter and Paul is celebrated by a Holy Mass in this church.
The National Park Mljet is located 13 km from Blato where guests can enjoy seeing a rich flora and fauna and many archaeological sites.
The Benedictan Monastery is located on the island of Saint Mary situated in The Great Lake. It is the most visited attraction of the National Park.
Guests can rent a kayak to discover and explore the numerous beaches and sea caves.
A spectacular view of the entire National Park and the peninsula of Peljesac and the open sea to Korcula From can be seen from the peaks of Montkuc and Veliki Gradac.

Blato (island Mljet) - History
The arrival of the Slavs marked the forming of the first permanent settlements on the island of Mljet. The village of Blato was established during the 17th century, and because of its ideal geographic position it was once well populated and even had its own school which is closed today sine many people left the island in search of a more prosperous life.
