Jesenice is situated on the coast of Adriatic, by the state road D8 from Split-Dubrovnik. It is located between two urban centers of Split and Omis.

Jesenice is one of the oldest settlements of the Municipality of Dugi Rat that were situated at 200-250m above the sea level on the slopes of the mountain. The other villages belonging to this Municipality are Zeljovici, Krug and Duce. Presently they are almost completely desolated as its rsidents started moving closer to the coast, particularly during the last thirty years because of the fast growing development of tourism.

The cave Turska pec and Ponistrica were places of discovery of various archeological findings that testify to this region being inhabited since the Stone Age.

Jesenice is well-known for its old boats. It is famous as the place of Onassis. The tradition of old boats (called 'salbunjera') as well as the tradition of tourist sailboats is over 300 years old.
