In Middle Ages Croats founded villages Susnjar and Radun in area of Kastel Stari. Inhabitants of those villages moved closer to the shore during Turkish attacks. They built castles and forts for protection. Family Cipiko built two castles, one in today's Kastel Novi and other in today's Kastel Stari.

In 1490. Koriolan Cipiko Castle in Kastel Stari was damaged in fire. It was renovated in 1493.
