Lumbarda (island Korcula) - Location and Climate
Lumbarda (island Korcula, Croatia) is a town located on east coast of island Korcula. It is located 7 km far from town Korcula and it belongs to Dubrovnik-Neretva's district. You can get to Lumbarda by a road from town Korcula. You can get to island Korcula by car, bus, boat or plane.
If you are coming by car or bus you will get to town Korcula by ferry or private boat transfers from Split, Dubrovnik, Peljesac, island Hvar or many other places. If you are coming by plane you will get to Split or Dubrovnik airport and then take a bus or taxi to island Korcula by ferry and then take a road to Lumbarda.
You can also take group or private boat excursions from many mainland and island places to get you to Lumbarda. There is a possibility of boat rentals, water taxi, speed boat transportation which can take you wherever you wish to go, on trips, cruising and other water activities.
Lumbarda has around 1200 inhabitants who have been directed mostly to fishing, stone cutting and wine growing. Today they are also great hosts for all tourists coming from around the world.

Lumbarda (island Korcula) - History
First inhabitants of Lumbarda were Illyrians. But Lumbarda has been home for many cultures and people through history. Greeks colonized Lumbarda in 35th year BC. Many Roman families moved to Lumbarda and left many cultural and historical sights. Name Lumbarda was first time mentioned in Korcula's statute in 1214. It prohibits the permanent settlement in Lumbarda.
From 1420. Lumbarda got under the rule of Venice and it shared the history of island Korcula till today. It was under the Austrian-Hungarian rule, Italian rule, SFR Yugoslavia and today it is part of Independent Republic of Croatia. Parish Lumbarda has been founded in 16th century. In 17th and 18th century Lumbarda had been countryside residency for bishops and nobels from Korcula.
