Mountain Svilaja is 30 km long mountain. Highest peak is Bat, 1508 m high. Flora of mountain Svilaja is consisted of beech forest, Balkan maple forest, hornbeam and grasslands. On slopes of mountain Svilaja are many Illyrian forts.

Church of St. Jure is Roman Catholic church built in 1901. It was built on foundations of old church. Church has dimensions 15 m x 8 m.

Orthodox church of St. Great Martyr Kyriakos was built in 1981.

Maovice was mostly inhabited in 17th century by people from Bosnia and Herzegovina during battles with Turks.

Maovice used to be called Mahovice from 1869. until 1889.

In the middle of 20th century Maovice had around 1500 inhabitants which later left because of poverty.

During the Homeland war Maovice was occupied for 4 years and freed in 1995.
