Molunat - Location and Climate
Molunat (South Dalmatia, Croatia) is a settlement located in southernmost part of Croatia, in region South Dalmatia. Molunat is part of Municipality Konavle. Molunat is located in a bay, 20 km south of town Cavtat.
Municipality Konavle is consisted of 32 settlements. Entire Municipality has around 8577 inhabitants. Most inhabited settlements are Cavtat and Cilipi.
Molunat is connected with town Cavtat with bus lines few times a day. For easier transportation you can also use boat rentals or private boat transfers.
Nearest airport is Airport Dubrovnik located in settlement Cilipi. You can get from airport to Molunat by private car transfers, taxi or bus. You can also rent a car in airport Dubrovnik.
If you are coming with a car from Continental Croatia you can use highway A1 and at the end continue on south. After you get to Dubrovnik just follow signs for Cavtat and then Molunat.

Molunat - History
Settlement Molunat was named after Greek word molos which means port or bay.
Area of Municipality Konavle was inhabited since Neolithic and Paleolithic. In 5th and 4th century BC this area was inhabited by Illyrian tribes and in 2nd century BC by Romans. Romans built important trading center in today’s Cavtat. It was called Epidaur.
Molunat was founded in 15th century as shelter for people suffering from plague and quarantine for ships coming from infected ports.
Peninsula of Molunat is surrounded with wall on mainland side. Wall had been built from 1468.-1471.
During the Homeland war, Molunat was attacked by Yugoslavian army and robbed, burned and destroyed.

Molunat - Interesting Facts
Since this area was often attacked by pirates, there is a folk story which says that pirates kidnapped 4 girls from Molunat. Only one of them was heard of later. She helped to her family.
