Orebic is a town and a Municipality situated on the south-west coast of the Peljesac peninsula at the foothills of St. Ilija. The town of Orebic offers a wide range of tourist attractions to its guests. In the bay of Trstenica there is a large sand beach, but there are also many rocky coves and bays in the vicinity that offer a lot of privacy.

Orebic - Attractions
By the promenade near the sea there is a Maritime Museum that was established in 1957. The museum exhibits various historical materials that were significant to the maritime industry of Orebic as well as the antique, Roman, pagan, and early Christian objects from everyday life and fragments of artistic objects and many more interesting archaeological and historical findings regarding the maritime tradition.
From the Franciscan monastery and Church of Our Lady of Angels located at 150 meters above sea level, where the loggia of the monastery is located, spreads an amazing view of the Peljesac canal, and of the islands Korcula, Mljet and Lastovo. Orebic captains and seafarers greet Our Lady of Angels with sirens when leaving or returning from their journeys as a sign of gratitude and to seek protection.
In the area of the Orebic Municipality there are over 40 churches and chapels which shows the great Christian tradition of this region. At the top of Peljesac at 961 m above sea level can be seen the ruins of the Church of St. Ilija the Prophet.
Some of the other tourist attractions that can be seen in Orebic are the Captain’s house, the Rector's Palace, the Captain's Cemetery and the winery.
Viganj is a small picturesque settlement located 7 from Orebic. It is situated in a large bay west to the cape St. Liberan on the Peljesac peninsula. It is well-known as one of the most famous windsurfing centers in Europe.
Ston is a small medieval town whose history dates back to the early 14th century. It is located 58 km from Orebic. The world’s second longest stone wall after the Great Wall of China called the Ston Wall can be seen here and it is the longest one in Europe. Ston is also known as the 'salt city' because of its oldest and still active salt-production plant in the world.
Dubrovnik is a located 111 km from Orebic. It is one of the most beautiful cities of the Mediterranean where guests can see:

Orebic - Location and Climate
Orebic is a settlement and a Municipality located on the Peljesac peninsula that belongs to the Dubrovnik-Neretva County. The Orebic Municipality has a population of about 4165 permanent residents who are mainly engaged in tourism. It consists of 14 settlements of: Donja Banda, Kuciste, Kuna Peljeska, Loviste, Nakovanj, Orebic, Oskorusno, Pijavicino, Podgorje, Podobuce, Potomje, Stankovici, Trstenik and Viganj.
If you are traveling by car in the direction of Zagreb to Split, take the motorway to Ploce. From Ploce you can go to Trpanj where you can board a ferry with your car and from Trpanj reach Orebic or Janina in 20 minutes, or you can get to Ston in 40 minutes. Another optional route after leaving the motorway is to drive about 30 minutes to the Adriatic highway, then drive eastward through Neum to Peljesac. It then takes a one-hour drive along the Peljesac road to reach Orebic.

Orebic - History
The settlement of Orebic has been established by the end of the 15th and the beginning of the 16th century within the area of the Dubrovnik Republic. It was named after the seafarers' family Orebic in 1586. The people of Orebic have always been turned towards the sea for their living.
Orebic was the headquarters for dukes from the 14th to the 19th century. From the 17th century the ships of Peljesac formed an important part of the merchant ship fleet. Today Orebic is an important tourist center with a diverse tourist offer.
