Rascane - History
During Roman times Rascane valley was connecting Epidaurus (today Cavtat) and Epetion (today Stobrec).
Many inhabitants moved from Rascane during World War I. Many left to Australia, Argentina, USA and Canada, but also to Split and Makarska.
There are no remains which would show that Rascane was inhabited in Prehistory, but many piles testify population during last few centuries BC. In piles were found tombs with bones which belonged to Illyrians.
Area of Rascane was part of Parish Gorska which was first time mentioned in 12th century in Chronicle of Priest of Duklja.
Turks came to this area in the end of 15th century and stayed until 1717. After Turks Venetians ruled in this area.
After Venetian Republic was cancelled, many rulers changed. Austrians, then French, then Austria-Hungary and Yugoslavia after World War II.
During French rule Dalmatian region was divided into four counties: Makarska, Sibenik, Zadar and Split. Also, Napoleon road was built which is still partly used today.
After World War I Rascane is part of Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenians which is later called Kingdom Yugoslavia.
During World War II Rascane became part of new state Independent Republic of Croatia which was founded in 1941.
At the end of World War II Yugoslavia was formed. It existed until 1991. when Croatia voted its independence.
