Sestanovac - History
Settlement Sestanovac was founded on crossroads of two roads (Omis-Cista Provo and Split-Imotski).
Sestanovac was named after settlement Sestani.
Area of Sestanovac was inhabited in Prehistory. In 1st century BC it was inhabited with Illyrian tribes. Tribe Dalmati had been in war with Romans from 156th year BC until 9th year AC.
When Romans won the war, they built roads and towns in this area.
Croats came to this area in 7th century.
In 14th century this area was part of Parish Radobilja.
In 1471. Radobilja got under the rule of Turks and it lasted until 1715. Venetians ruled after Turks until 1797.
Later were changed few rulers in entire Dalmatia: French, Austrian, Hungarian and Yugoslavian.
Since 1991. Sestanovac has been part of independent Republic of Croatia.
Sestanovac was named after settlement Sestani.
