Sumartin has around 620 inhabitants who are mostly directed to agriculture, fishing, vine and olive growing and tourism.

Sumartin (island Brac) - History
During the 17th century when the Turks ravened the region of Croatia and Bosnia, the priest Petar Kuba came to live on the island Brac with a few more families in search of a shelter. They chose Sumartin as their place and built a small shrine in the honor of their patron saint Martin after whom this settlement was named in the 19th century. At the place of the shrine today stands a Franciscian Monastery built in 1747.
