First inhabitants of island St. Andrew were Benedictines. Family Crijevic from Dubrovnik built a monastery and church on island. Monastery was ruined in earthquake in 1667.

Island St. Andrew used to be a quarantine for inhabitants of Lopud.

In 1872. Austrian-Hungarian government built a lighthouse on island. In center is a tower on which is a lighthouse.

On island St. Andrew used to live writer from Dubrovnik Mavro Vetranic Cavcic in 16th century.

Dubrovnik Archives keep a story about Mary who used to live on Lopud with three brothers. Her friend's brother Niko was in love with Mary. One night her brothers saved John in shipwreck. Mary took care of him and they fall in love. He was nobleman and she was village girl so his father did not allow them to be together. John left on island St. Andrew where he kept meeting with Mary. At the evenings John used to leave lantern on island so that Mary could see when she was coming. Niko and Mary's brothers found out about them and one night they followed her. They lighted a lantern in a boat and made Mary swim further and further in the open sea. John waited for her for few nights when he found her body on rocks on third night. He stayed forever in the monastery after that.
