One of the most popular and most visited attractive places of the Makarska Riviera is the settlement of Tucepi. It is situated in central Dalmatia at the foot of the Biokovo Nature Park that crowns the Makarska Riviera.

Tucepi - Attractions
There are many old churches, towers and villas that can be seen in Tucepi and its vicinity. Some of the most important sights are:
- The Church of the Nativity of Our Lady was constructed in 1703 in Dalmatian Baroque style as a one-nave building.
- The Church of St Roko is located in Upper Tucepi and was built in 1730.
- The Church of St Anthony of Padua was constructed in 1898. It is a neoclassical building with Baroque altars transferred to it from the old parish church.
- The foundations of St Vitus’ Church can be seen in Sutvid.
- St George’s Church has been constructed on the foundations of a Roman “villa rustica” that dates from the 12th century in 1311. It is preserved as a one-nave building with a semi-round apse and painted memorial crosses inside and was built in Romanesque-Gothic style.
At the foot of the Biokovo Mountain can be seen the three towers called Saric, Buselic and Lalic dating from the 18th century. They were constructed for defensive purposes to help fight against the Turks.
The nature lovers can enjoy the Biokovo Nature Park and from the top of the 1762 m high peak of St George guests will be amazed by an absolutely breathtaking panoramic view that extends to Italy on a fine day.

Tucepi - History
Due to its ideal geographical location and its vicinity to the cities of Makarska, Split and Dubrovnik Tucepi has been inhabited since the Ancient Roman times.
The first written mention of Tucepi was found in a document called the Charter of Kresevo dating from the 1434 and written in Croatian but with Bosnian Cyrillic script.
The Turkish ruled this region from the late 15th to the late 17th century and in the 18th century the Venetians took over the reign.
Located at the foot of the Biokovo Mountain can be seen the towers that once served as a defense against the Turkish attacks. The Church of St Catherine’s was constructed by the inhabitants of Tucepi in 1541 and later a chapel was also built next to the church.

Tucepi - Interesting Facts
Tucepi has been acknowledged as a great holiday destination even in the past which can be assumed by the Baroque summer villas seen here and dating from the 18th. The wealthy noble families of Grubisic, Ivanisevic and Kacic from coastal Croatia built those villas and the villa that belonged to Abbot Klement Grubisic is the most impressive one of them.
